Thanksgiving Food Review: Appetizers

Thanksgiving food charcuterie

Thanksgiving. When you hear the word, the first thought that comes to mind, after being thankful and helping others out, is food. Good food.

Among the many traditions of Thanksgiving is the wonderful meal shared with loved ones.

In preparation for Thanksgiving, here at Yard Couch we are looking at the best options for each category. We will be rolling out reviews for popular dishes served on the holiday.

Of course, the first one has to be on appetizers, there is no other way to start it out.

The key to a good appetizer experience is to have plenty of options. Having one option just won’t cut it, especially if you have a large group you are feeding. You don’t want everyone to be standing around, crowded by one dish. Appetizers should be easy to grab, tasteful, and allow people to be social while enjoying.

Here are some options to appease all your guests.

Simple and Easy

An iconic trio of cheese, meat, and crackers. The best part is there are plenty of options for which cheeses, meats, and crackers you can include. There are seriously thousands of low budget combinations. A nice charcuterie board will impress any guests and make you look extra fancy. Good luck pronouncing it correctly though.

Another option is vegetables and dip. Some people don’t even need the dip! It is very easy and quick to cut some carrots, celery, or cucumber for those guests who are on the healthier side.

When all else fails, put out some chips. If you’re running behind schedule or doing Thanksgiving super last minute, it’s the easiest option. People will always grab a chip or two if they’re around.

A Little More Complicated But Still Great Finger Foods

If you serve bruschetta, people will think you’re big time. It looks good and tastes even better. It is also easier to make than it seems. If you really want to make it simple, you could get by with just bread, olive oil, tomatoes, basil, and garlic.

Now I’m assuming you’re not going to be making this one from scratch. But if you do, hats off to you. The reason mozzarella sticks are in this category and not the previous one is that they have to be served hot. It’s tough work remembering to set the oven ahead of time. And don’t forget to let them cool for a minute when you take them out of the oven.

Difficult But Worth It

This one isn’t easy, but most good things require a little hard work. Buffalo chicken meatballs are the perfect appetizer to take your array to the next level. The good thing about them is that they can be small and bite-size. And you can use a toothpick or fork so your hands won’t get dirty.

And remember, Thanksgiving is one of those holidays where people eat at strange times. You don’t want friends and family to starve until dinner. Little appetizers can go a long way.
